Bruins Open Season With 3-0 Shutout of Rangers

Fraser Minten broke a scoreless tie in the third period and the Bruins never looked back in their 2026-27 opener.

The Bruins kicked off the new season the way they'd want to: with a shutout. Boston beat the New York Rangers 3-0 on Tuesday night, per ESPN, getting the goals it needed late after a tight, scoreless first two periods and change.

Fraser Minten was the one who broke through, scoring with just over four minutes left in regulation to put the Bruins ahead 1-0. From there, Boston put the game away in a hurry — JJ Peterka and Mark Kastelic scored 23 seconds apart, with Kastelic's coming into an empty net, to make it 3-0 and seal the opening-night win.

It's a small sample, but a shutout to start the year is about as good a first impression as the Bruins could have asked for. The offense didn't come easy — Boston had to grind out a scoreless deadlock into the third period before Minten's goal opened the floodgates — but the finish, with two goals in the span of 23 seconds, is the kind of thing that will make Bruins fans feel good heading into Game 2.

No word yet on how the rest of the roster looked or whether this is a sign of things to come, but for one night, Boston's discipline and third-period push were enough to beat New York to open the season.
